How do I make friends with this guy that completely avoids me?

There's this guy that I liked for a while, but i never told him. I guess one of my friends told him or something, but ever since he pretends that I dont exist. He would just avoid looking at me, and since I sit next to him in english cl, he scoots farther away, or just turns the opposite direction. Today, a bunch of us had plans to go to lunch together, but I think once he heard that I was going, he told my friend that he "didn't feel like going" anymore. I just want to be friends with him, but when I try to talk, he kinda just blots out the conversation by saying he has to go.
