Ladies, in honor of Valentine's Day...?

just a little question about love. I've been hearing a lot about this over the last few days. But would you be offended if your beloved gave you an inexpensive engagement ring? Would it matter if he was working cl and busted his a$$ for every penny he makes and simply couldn't afford anything really extravagant? I hear a lot of women say that it is simply inexcusable for a guy not to spend a "certain" amount for an engagement ring. For the record I personally don't feel that way.
