SMOG help 2001 Ford Ranger V6 4.0?

I have a 2001 ford ranger edge. It has a V6 4.0. I just got it smoged and they failed it on the visual test. I live in CA and this is a test only station. They said my PCV valve is missing on the penger side. My under standing is the PCV in on the driver side in the back. The only thing I see is a � inch nipple coming out of the valve cover on the penger side. What is this for?
